| Merry Xmas |
[Dec. 16th, 2004|08:43 pm] |
Well, my car is back in the garage again, head gasket has decided to blow on me, plus I think there is a leak in the coolant system somewhere... thats £200+ down the drain.
Bloody DVD player has decided to stop working, thats another £90.
VCR is chewing more tapes than normal lately: £35
On a lighter note, got Sam a "Chinese Water Dragon" for xmas. (for those who are going 'A what???', heres a picture of one: http://www.nitrophotos.com/mu12.jpg). Its really cute, nervous, etc.... however don't go rushing out to buy one... cost a fortune for everything (vivarium, lamps, electrics, litter, food, etc, etc).
Got myself a nice little project underway also. [Cue Flashback]
At work and my supervisor is stressing over his laptop. He cant seem to get it to work, so I offered to take it to the shop and take a look at it. Gives me everything, leads, XP, etc. Anyway, when i get to the shop, the boss starts ranting and raving. Turns out that not only was it an illegal copy of Windows XP, but it was copied from the company. EEK! So anyway, my supervisor isnt happy with me now, and ..... bah, fuck it.
Anyway, ive got my project to work on, will keep me happy and will rake in the cash when its done. Woohooo :P
So, that's probably it from me until after xmas... working most of it :( Anyone reading this, I hope you have a nice holiday and stuff.
Merry New Year!!! :) |

| Rainbow's Innuendo |
[Dec. 8th, 2004|08:05 pm] |
Back in the 70's and 80's the top hit show for children was a weird thing called "Rainbow". Anyway, cutting a long story short, I found a clip of one of the earlier episodes... now, at a 'mature' age, i can see that it wasnt ALL for kids at all.
I urge you to watch this and see for yourself the sexual innuendo that we were fed as children. Enjoy :)

| | Ultravox - Vienna | ] | I admit that recently I have been neglecting that which brews inside me... almost to the point of uncontrollable inner rage at times (nothing physical and outward... more an inner battle). But despite that, a few .... feelings (??) have brought back something which I thought I had lost. My mind has been clouded by the need for financial security and success in the workplace, not that that is a bad thing, after all my family comes before everything, but I realise that I cannot ignore that which will not lay dormant.
Ok, enough crypticness.... Time for some brief random feeling quotes:
Change is coming, something small, however. A small change which will more than likely spiral either way.
I found a great 'get-rich' scheme... its call: Rob a bank.. lol, jk. Actually, ive been considering getting an investment. Some nest-egg to safe-guard me against our frail pension crisis. Would be nice to say I own a percentage of a company lol.
Ok, my mind is skipping again. A broken television..... or a hyperactive monkey flipping the channels.... bleh, i'll post more later probably.
I HATE MY CAR... ITS BREAKING ALREADY :( |

| | Korn - Right Now | ] | A while ago, i did a personality test (cant remember the link), and it said that I matched the "Mastermind" personality. So rare is this type that approximatly 1% of the population fall into it. lol, Anyway, here is a summary of the mastermind personality architype:
Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition, it is the contingency planning or entailment organizing role that reaches the highest development in Masterminds. Entailing or contingency planning is not an informative activity, rather it is a directive one in which the planner tells others what to do and in what order to do it. As the organizing capabilities the Masterminds increase so does their inclination to take charge of whatever is going on.
It is in their abilities that Masterminds differ from the other Rationals, while in most of their attitudes they are just like the others. However there is one attitude that sets them apart from other Rationals: they tend to be much more self-confident than the rest, having, for obscure reasons, developed a very strong will. They are rather rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population. Being very judicious, decisions come naturally to them; indeed, they can hardly rest until they have things settled, decided, and set. They are the people who are able to formulate coherent and comprehensive contingency plans, hence contingency organizers or "entailers."
Masterminds will adopt ideas only if they are useful, which is to say if they work efficiently toward accomplishing the Mastermind's well-defined goals. Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, Masterminds are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, Masterminds approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity. To the Mastermind, organizational structure and operational procedures are never arbitrary, never set in concrete, but are quite malleable and can be changed, improved, streamlined. In their drive for efficient action, Masterminds are the most open-minded of all the types. No idea is too far-fetched to be entertained-if it is useful. Masterminds are natural brainstormers, always open to new concepts and, in fact, aggressively seeking them. They are also alert to the consequences of applying new ideas or positions. Theories which cannot be made to work are quickly discarded by the Masterminds. On the other hand, Masterminds can be quite ruthless in implementing effective ideas, seldom counting personal cost in terms of time and energy

| | Madonna - Die Another Day | ] | Council tax, Housing, Social Security, Rent, Tax Credits, ARGH!!!! Ive really had enough. I want to be 13 again, no worries about finance... because money grows from your parents pockets :)
A shine of light through the financial problems though, the other day my boss came into my office and closed the door. Immediatly i start shitting myself. (He's the type of boss that doesn't have any facial expressions so its hard to read what he is thinking). This is how the conversation went:
Boss: "Matt, have you got a minute, id just like to have a quick word with you". I feel my pants filling up heh. He then says: "I realise that when you first joined us, you wanted to go into programming."
To which i said, rather stutteringly,
Me: "Its an ambition of mine, not that I dont enjoy working as a technician. Without meaning to be big headed, i feel very confident at programming in Visual Basic, however i still lack the skills required to work at industry standard."
Boss: "hmm, well we have a position in the programming department coming available and since you have the exact attributes we require in an employee, I think you would be more than suited to the position. Would you like that?"
I start getting paranoid at this point, wondering if he is trying to trick me into saying "I HATE DOIN TECHIE WORK!!!" or something :)
Me: "Well, im enjoying the work im doing at the moment, im learning an awful lot about the technical side of computing....." boss interrupts
Boss: " *laughs* Whatever you say isnt going to affect your position here. We value your contributions to the company and realise that you may not wish to be stuck doing the same job forever. Now we would much prefer to use your talents with the company than you getting bored and seeking employment elsewhere. So, I take it you would like to progress?"
Me: "Definatly." .... I started rambling a bit here
Boss: "Well, i have a few plans for the programming department. Should be interesting. Anyway, I'll let you get back to work"
So,...... i think the phrase "MO' MONEY, MO' MONEY, MO' MONEY" comes into play here.. heh, at least I know im doing something right :) |

| | exhausted | ] | Managed to get myself into a job, finally. Working for a computer company near the trainstation. Heh, i said that I would work a week on a voluntary basis so that I can get a feel for the job and that they can see what I can do.
Just finished my first day.... im mentally exhausted, my feet are killing me, im going crosseyed from staring at a monitor for too long and I HATE COMPUTERS!! Its only when you're in the profession do you truely understand how annoying computers really are. So anyway, first job, manually remove a virus from someone's PC... diving straight into the nitty-gritty. No sweat though, software is my thing and it only took me an hour to fully remove it from the system (Long time? Did i mention that i had to 'manually' remove it... Norton couldnt remove it).
Yeah, next was a PC that only started up when it felt like it. All other times it just gave no signal to the monitor... *sighs* and here is where I spent the rest of my day. Testing each and every part of the PC, replacing items, fiddling with wires. Finally got it narrowed down to the power supply (it was a 200w PSU in a machine typically containing a 400w). So yeah, replaced it with a 300w... nothing worked. The power supply was fine, the motherboard and all peripherals got power, but nothing to the monitor. The graphics card was fine... *shrugs* I hate computers :)
Goin for a coffee and some food and relax :) |

| The joys of programming.... [/sarcasm] |
[Aug. 28th, 2004|09:31 am] |
Two and a half hours.... may not seem like much, but Two and a half hours sat in an empty office with the assistant manager getting more and more pissed off at how long you are taking.
Created a database system for some IFA company a month ago however it was a fairly rushed project and there was a few major bugs which needed fixing so we had to install a new version. We get there, everything goes fine, install it, run it, works perfectly (or so it seemed) when i realised that part of the debugging code (the stuff i wrote in to make sure everything works) was still in. Ummmm, time to rebuilt the project. Try again, install it, and the damn menu bar pops up with "DEMO" or "NOT REGISTERED" or some shit... grinding my teeth, we try again, install it, works fine... go to show the management reports, program stops responding....... realise that because one single line of code is missing the program wont function. Cue boiling point...
Anyway, finally fix it, program runs, and the report screws up. Instead of giving an output of the total mortgage values, it spurts out a random number: 7,956,584,264,923.00 7 TRILLION!!!?!??!??!?
Ok, so we pack up and leave quickly..... they're getting another update next week sometime heh.
I love it in a chaotic kind of way. Hours spent sat infront of a machine, typing incomprehensible garbage onto the screen and running it.... lovely, works fine, not a problem in the world, then you go to install it at the clients place and everything that could go wrong does.
So yeah, the joys of programing... :) |

If i get that I will be trained in a HNC IT engineering course as well as MCSE... only £9,000 per year but that would be a sweet ass position. Another one which im really unsure of is "Trainee EPOS System Engineer". I know that EPOS is short for Elecrtonic Point Of Sale, but apart from that im unsure what the job wants from me. "I will be assisting the team leader in all configurations, installations, support and training in hospitably and retail units regionally and nationally"..... hell, if it means i get a job i'd work on Mars. Daniel has been great for getting me out of my moods lately. Usually we argue about something and toy-fight (for a 2 year old, he really is rough at times) and then thats it. Heh, for about half an hour we were arguing about my neighbours seat outside their house. Its a bench, but he insists its a chair so:
Me: "Its a bench!!" Dan: "A Chair!!" Me: "Its a bench!!" Dan: "A Chair!!" Me: "Its a bench!!" Dan: "A Chair!!"
over and over and over heh... Sam must be tearing her hair out :)
Loved the storm yesterday.... all up until the point i stuck my head out the window and the lightning must have hit a house (or the TV arial) out the back.
